Painting is for me an act of personal translation. What is going on inside my head and heart are translated into a visual object through the messiness of paint and the touch of my hands. It is always a process that involves surprise and discovery, a love for the beauty of imperfection, and a search for balance, between chaos and order, accident and intent, verbal and nonverbal, clarity and mystery, emotion and intellect, light and dark. My latest work has also been further shaped by the profoundly unsettling experience of becoming a widow in 2012.
